TSE or Test of Spoken English is an English Proficiency Test that measures the ability of non-native English speakers to speak and communicate in English effectively. The Test may be used either for an Academic or Professional requirement - Academic requirement for admission to U.S. colleges and universities and Professional for registration as a Nurse to work in the U.S. This Test is also administered by ETS.
TSE is a 20-minute long Test that is done with an audio recording and a test book. The test-taker answers by responding to questions through a headset inside a cubicle and the test-taker's responses are recorded.
The TSE Test is already in its twilight in favor of TOEFL iBT or the Test Of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based Test which integrates Speaking as part of the usual TOEFL Test. The TSE Test will still be available in the Philippines until March 2007 or until the TOEFL iBT is administered worldwide.
